If you happen to be wandering the close-knit, canal bound streets of Amsterdam, you may enjoy a trip to Red Wing Boot’s Amsterdam headquarters – one of the nicest looking and best stocked stores the city has to offer. It’s a bit outside the main shopping streets, so it’ll be a bit of a walk (but it’ll take you very close to Tenue de Nimes as well – probably the best denim stockist in the world) but it’s a walk well worth it. The store features most of Red Wing boots stock, including some special editions and a number of historically significant boots. There’s also a great collection of magazines, including a gorgeous Red Wing catalogue produced in Japan and German based magazine The Heritage Post and some nice Americana memorabilia that’s enjoyable to browse. The back of the store has a great selection of leather goods, keeping with the Red Wing leather style, mostly from Portland based Tanner Goods – including the cardholder AP uses. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and more than able to talk about the history of Red Wing, dispense advice on boot maintenance in English or Dutch and will go the extra mile to try to get you the boots you’re looking for, even if they’re not currently in stock. I certainly enjoyed my stop in recently, it’s well worth a visit if you’re in the area.
